My route into audio has been pretty unusual. I started with a degree Psychology and Philosophy, then trained as an actor. I spent 10 years performing in theatre, film and television. But I felt constrained. I wanted more creative control over my work. Acting - at its best - can be a thrilling and varied career, but actors are typically slotted in to a project last. I wanted to research, write and create shows myself.

So after a Masters in the History and Philosophy of Science, I pivoted to making the kind of podcasts I always loved to listen to - featuring smart people and compelling stories which reveal deep insights into our world.

Eventually that led me to the BBC's Audio Science Unit, where I got to make big, popular Radio 4 series like Curious Cases (I've made 5 series so far) and an ambitious 6-part documentary on the history and chilling present of eugenics (Bad Blood) with seasoned broadcaster and geneticist Adam Rutherford. For that, we won the Gold AAAS Kavli Award for audio science journalism.

I had a break out hit with two series of Uncharted, extending my relationship with the brilliant Hannah Fry.

That's the stuff I really love to make - gripping, human stories rich with insight.
